If you are a longtime reader of this blog, or know me in real life then you will know that I'm an avid skier. If you have ever skied with me, you will know that I'm not very good at the sport. However, despite the fact that I'm no Bodie Miller. I really do enjoy it. It's one of my favorite things to do that doesn't involve the summer months.
Much to my dismay, there will be no skiing for Meghan this year. Baby (or "Parasite" as I have started calling him) has put a very quick end to that. When I found out I was in the family way, the lack of skiing is one of the first thoughts that went running through my head. I haven't spent a winter without skiing since the last winter of college (2002/2003). I'm really upset about that. I've already told my mother that I will be dropping the baby (parasite) off next winter while I got skiing for the day. However, that's about 15 months away. It does nothing to help me get through this winter. I'm aware that when you have a baby, your life completely changes. But why does it have to change so much before he even makes his appearance?
(ps, although I am referring to the baby as "he", we in fact, have no idea what the sex is and won't for some time. But I know it's a boy.)

tagged
I've been tagged by Bree. So here goes my 7 random things about myself:
1. I have spent 10 minutes every morning for the past 4 weeks with my head in the toilet
2. I recently had a 2 week span in which I wanted to eat nothing but cheeseburgers. I think I had about 4 in that time span. Currently, the thought of a cheeseburger makes me slightly ill.
3. I'm slowly out growing my work pants, and let me tell you, I'm not getting any taller.
4. I can barely stay awake past 9pm, which is not good on days I have class and I don't even get home till 9:30pm
5. I get up at least 2x a night to go to the bathroom. And that's only getting worse.
6. My due date was my brother's birthday. I was early and was born on my cousin's birthday. I am due on another cousin's birthday, which was the original due date of yet ANOTHER cousin. Methinks I have too many cousins.
7. With about a 2 week window on either side, June 23rd, 2009 should see an addition to my family!

Happy Thanksgiving!
The holiday season is upon us, and I just saw Santa in the Macy's Day parade... it's officially Thanksgiving!
Lots of mashed potatoes, stuffing, pies, and ice cream today! I actually don't eat turkey on Thanksgiving. I know it's crazy, but I really don't like it. However, there is always MORE than enough food to keep me full. We are in Quincy this year and my family eats dinner late, so things are kind of quiet around here right now. Give it a few hours and it will be loud and crazy and I'll be wishing for the peace and quiet again!

5 dollar footlong
I don't like how the numbers on the field are outlined in orange at Dolphin Stadium. If someone could do something about that for me, that'd be fantastic.
It's been pretty cold this weekend, especially in Keene. Windchills have been in the single digits. Luckily the cold snap is going to end tomorrow and it's going back up to 40ยบ. Which is where it is supposed to be in the middle of November!
I'm pretty excited that this is Thanksgiving week. My company gives the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday (we gave up Columbus Day or Veteran's Day - don't know which one- for it). So it's an automatic 4 day weekend/ 3 day work week. That's more exciting than Christmas week. Last year we had to work December 24th and 26th. Lame. This year our CEO gave us Dec 26th. Wasn't that nice of him.... I'm willing to bet that he didn't work the 26th last year, but the rest us had to. So yeah, Thanksgiving week is cool. Even if I have to write a paper this weekend. It's the last Thanksgiving at school.... I have to keep telling myself that.
How annoying is that 5 dollar foot long commercial?

overly emotional
Lately I've been a little crazy emotional. I blame stress and UMass. Because my stress comes from UMass, and really why not blame everything on UMass whether logical or not? I don't know why, but the end of the fall semster is always worse than the end of Spring semester. My theory is because you have stress surrounding you at Christmas time anyway and it's getting colder and darker. But in the middle of May you're all happy because summer is coming and it's getting warmer and lighter.
Since I have Christmas, end of semester, and work stress right now, I'm a mess. I cry at everything. My house is a mess because the physical act of cleaning it is beyond me right now. I have to write checks out to all my "shit, it's the end of the year, we need to give a LOT more money for the tax write off, or else we will owe" organizations. Those being SAC, NDA, St. John's, and this year Norwich University basketball team. But I can't find my checkbook (because honestly, who writes checks nowadays?) and every time I try to look, I cry. I've bought about 3 Christmas presents and I need to buy about 30 more. (I enjoy paying off Christmas until March, no really, I do). I have to buy stamps. Where do you even buy stamps aside from the post office? I haven't bought a stamp since last Christmas. I really don't want to go to the post office, there is no parking there.
Do you see how difficult my life is? Okay, I know it's not that bad. And in about 6 months I'll be done with school. But right now I'd be willing to trade. Anyone?

Oh Come All Ye Faithful
A few weeks ago I wrote that I was going to try my hardest to enjoy Christmas this year. And I really am trying. It's extremely hard because I am so stressed out with school stuff around Christmas, and it's really all I can think about or focus on. So I'm trying the best way I can to get into the Christmas spirit, but I really think it's a lost cause for me until Christmas 2009.
What would help me now is some snow. I don't want another commute from hell, but I do want maybe 3 or 4 inches on the ground. I enjoy snow, as long as I don't have to drive in it. As long as the plows have time to get on the roads before I do, I really have no problem with it. So a little bit of snow would go a long way towards me becoming more jolly and less Grinchy. Being done with my Innovation paper would help too (yes, my class is called Front End of Innovation. Biggest waste of time ever, and the professor has never had a job in the real world. You can guess how much I have learned from this class).
So bring on the snow, as long as it falls from the hours of 10PM thorugh 3AM or 9AM through 3PM. Preferably 9Am through 3PM because I love nothing more than to watch snow fall. I used to get all decked out in my snowsuit (loved the one piece ones as a kid!) and lie on my back in the backyard and just stare up at the snow falling. There's nothing prettier!

lazy weekend, my behind
I had Friday off as a "vacation" day. In reality I got up early, the plumber came and did his plumber thing. Andrew then went off to work, I stayed home and played Susie Homemaker and we ended up at my parent's house for dinner. Saturday was up early again, Andrew's brother came over to finish up our bathroom (only the tub is still blue now!) while I went back over to my parent's house to play with Miss Molly, then we went up to Manch where we binged on fries and ranch. That was a late night, didn't get home till around midnight. Today, up early AGAIN so the Verizon man could come. He came, but couldn't do anything. Figures. Then we visited some family, then went back up to Nashua to meet up with Andrew's parents.
I am exhausted.

Confessions of a bored Twenty Something
* I am listening to Christmas music already. Normally I'm a "wait until Thanksgiving for Christmas music" kind of girl, but this year I'm busting them out early.
* I've had chocolate chip pancakes every weekend day for breakfast for more weeks in a row than I care to admit.
* I'm making a non-religious Advent calendar for advent this year. We used to make them when we were kids. My mother would draw a huge Christmas tree on poster board and we would glue Hershey's Kisses for each day of Advent and color the tree. I'll be doing that again this year, only I still may need my mother to draw my tree for me.
* All I want Santa to bring me is a Canon Xsi. Santa cannot afford that. But I'm a believer in "Yes Virginia, there IS a Santa Clause"
* I always know how many more weeks I have to get through until it's summer/Cape time again.
* (related note) I'm sick to death of Edgartown. I feel guilty saying that.
* I hate UMass a little more each day. And it's been 4 years, so you can imagine where my hatred is now.
* I'm still really sad that Nick and Jessica got a divorce. Also, I still blame Angelina Jolie for breaking up Jen and Brad.
* I think Vera Bradley makes the UGLIEST crap I have ever seen and when I see women with their VB bags, I want to smack them upside the head.
* I'm confused as to why Britney Spears is a pop star. Not only is she certifiably crazy, but she can't sing.
* I really have no patience for people who smoke it this day and age. Aside from the negative health benefits, it's trashy and low class.
* I mentally correct people's grammar. It isn't very nice of me. But it would be less nice of me if I did it out loud. So I've got something going for me.
* I spent a ridiculous amount of money to see New Kids on the Block twice and now I'm complaining that I am broke. I understand why that's wrong, but I still do it.

#50 is an eligible receiver
So there I was, sitting on my bed, writing a mind numbingly pointless paper on made up stuff that has nothing to do with reality (okay, there I go on my tangents again) and I hear Andrew come in with the coffee. He's running around shouting like a mad man about going to the Patriots today and how my father has been trying to call and we have to go to Shaws. Um... what? I look at the clock. 11:59. Kickoff is at 1:00pm. No way in hell can we make it. Despite the fact that we live about 10 miles away from Gillette, traffic on Rt 1 on game day brings a new meaning to the word hellish. But, Andrew points out in his mad frenzy, there is no fear of Rt 1 traffic today!! These tickets are coming with a ride from my father's friend who has the special parking pass! Alrighty then, problem solved. I get up and pull some clothes on in about .09 seconds, brush my teeth, and fly out the door. About 12 minutes later we're sitting at the Shaw's parking lot in Sharon/Foxboro (somewhere around there) and about 30 seconds later my father and his friend show up. 10 minutes later, and we're in the back entrance parking lot, walking towards our seats. My father and his friend go up to the club seats; Andrew and I go to the 20th row. On the 45 yard line. And we sit down with our overpriced food just in time to watch kick off.
And we watchted the Pats trounce the Bills. It could only have been better if it was the Colts.

Only 1 of the 3 ballot questions went my way. But I guess 1 out of 3 is better than 0 out of 3. And there won't be any more greyhound racing in the Commonwealth!
Well, we can all agree that we just had a historic election. The President of the United States, for the first time, is not white. Only 40 years have elapsed from the assassination of Martin Luther King to the election of Barack Obama. I'd like to say that racism is now behind us in this country, but it's not. However, this is a HUGE step in the right direction. Go us. Now I'd REALLY like to see a woman as a President, but that's going to take a few more years (any other woman on the planet other than Sarah Palin, that is). I think that's a few years down the road, but it will happen sooner than later.
I absolutely adore President Elect Obama's environmental policy. The days of not taking center stage in the environmental ring because we're sulking that China is a bigger polluter than we are, and yet they don't have stringent restrictions are over. We need to take the high road, we need to be the leaders in cleaning up the planet, and we need to deal with the fact that some countries are going to drag their feet. Instead of acting like a petulant child slamming their bedroom door and not participating in family dinner, we might finally be the role model the child needs. Obama's plan has us catching up with the EU's recycling and emmisions policies, and it will force American businesses to make a choice: pollute less, or pay up. We're on the right track. We should have been the forerunners from the beginning, but we weren't, and there's nothing we can do about that now. It's time to make up for past mistakes (and though Bush is 100% to blame for the non existant envronmental policy in the last 8 years, I don't think Clinton did all he could have, either) and realize that we do need to make some changes.
I hope Obama can do it. He said he could, now let's see what happens.

vote early, vote often
Did you vote today? I'm anxiously awaiting the results of the questions on the MA ballot. I love how CNN announced the Obama won Vermont with 0% of the precincts. And they announced South Carolina will go to McCain, even though Obama is winning there right now. I know they're probably going to be right, but it's just a little odd to see it.
This is my 3rd presidential election - the first being the shitshow that was 2000. That was a fun election; we had an Election Night gathering in the North Lounge in Cushing at Saint A's. There was excitement at the beginning of the night... around midnight people were walking around in circles muttering bad things about Florida. People would begin saying worse things about Florida in the coming days, but that night we didn't know how bad it was going to get. I have no memory of the 2004 election. Probably because the thought of 4 more years of Bush was sending me into a deep depression.
I hope everyone voted, and if you live in MA, I hope you voted the right way on the ballot questions!

question
Who decided weekends should be 2 days? Why do we have to have a 5 day work week? Honestly, why can't we have a 4 day work week and a 3 day weekend?
And what evil little man decided to have football on at 8pm on Sunday? Hello, I have to get up at 6:20 in the morning. I cannot be up till 11:30 at night watching football!
At least I have this Thursday off. And I am going to be seeing New Kids again. :)
And I DVR'd Bridget Jones' Diary.... mmmm.... Mark Darcy!
