My friend let me borrow her copy of the Gold's Gym Dance Workout for the Wii. Let's just say it's not the workout for me. The dance part of the workout is Latin Dance. I'm not a Latin Dancer... I have no rhythm, I can never find the beat, and my limbs are flying everywhere. I'm a danger to small children and animals. At one point I was suposed to be doing the salsa, and I was seriously doing an Irish jig. I tried really hard to mimic what the game was doing, but it came out like a jig. I still don't know how that happened.
The jury is still out as to whether or not I will be buying a copy for myself. There was some kickboxing that I did enjoy, so I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow night and see if the kick boxing can make up for the Latin Dance. Kick Boxing requires much less rhythm. Less chance I will knock over a lamp. (I would like to point out that I did gymnastics for 8 years and figure skating for 14 years. STILL NOT GRACEFUL)
Why is there a Short Chubby Girl dance? I should create one - it will involve the jig and waving your arms over your head. Really, as long as your hear rate is up, who cares if you can salsa?
Also... I left work on time today, which I hadn't done in quite a while and it was light out when I left!!! Granted, I leave work at 4, but I swear the week before Christmas it was already pitch black when I walked out the doors of work. Not the case now! Whoo hoo! Winter has barely started, but I'm already seeing signs of it ending!
On that note, we are supposed to get another storm on Friday. I am going to work on Friday. Please pray to whatever deity, spiritual being, alien overlord, or whatever you believe in that A) I make it home Friday afternoon and B) my little Carolla also makes it home Friday afternoon!
I didn't want to admit this, but I haven't started my scrapbook yet. Feel free to yell at me.

In my on going effort to not look like a beached whale on my Fun Filled Family Vacation to the beach this summer, I'm still plugging along with my "losing weight" quest. It's in quotes, because I did manage to lose 15 pounds. I know! Go me!! And then they came right back on, right around the same time I decided that Italian subs really are good for you. And there's no reason NOT to have them once a week!
So yeah, the pounds came back.
And I look like a whale.
So I'm back at it. The best I can hope for now is to get rid of the same 15 pounds, plus (maybe) another 5 if I try really really hard. Though I have to admit I'll be pretty happy if I am 20 pounds lighter when I go on vacation.
The point in all this (and there is one this time) is that I am counting my calories.
*** RANDOM ASIDE HERE: If you want to count your calories (and other fats/nutrients as well) and you have an iPhone (and maybe an iPod touch or an iPad - I assume apps work on all of them...) I highly recommend "Lose It". It's free and tremendously easy to track calories and exercise. END OF RANDOM ASIDE ***
So I knew that last night I only had about 30 calories left for the day. I also knew that I would want a bag of my Smart Pop (only 100 calories!). There was no way in hell I was going to the gym at 7:45 at night. So I dragged out my Wii Fit (I didn't weigh myself though. It's demoralizing to see your Mii get all round and pudgy. And nothing was worse than when I was 48 months pregnant and it told me I was obese) and did the advanced step and the hula hoops, and then I turned on the free step. For those of you not familiar with the free step in Wii Fit, you basically turn it on, and it plays a rhythm through the remote and you step on and off the balance board to the rhythm. It goes for a half hour and wants you to do 2400 steps. So it's nothing that will kill you, but it's a good way to watch TV for a half hour. At least you aren't just sitting on the couch.
On it went, and I turned on the season premier of Army Wives (oh, the drama! LOVE IT!) and stepped on and off that stupid balance board for 30 minutes while yelling at the TV because, let's face it, those are some stupid story lines on Army Wives.
Moral of the story? If you ever need entertaining, just come to our house at night. If you are lucky you will get to see a short chubby overtired woman doing a step routine and yelling at a Lifetime Original Series. I guarantee you will laugh.

Poor Mii
I've been a fan of the yoga portion of Wii Fit since I was 27 months pregnant and could barely walk without falling over. My flexibility has improved vastly since then, and I can almost do the Tree pose! For those of you who are not familiar with what that is, here's a picture:

I can do it standing on my left leg, but I still fall over on when I'm trying this on my right leg. It's a work in progress though, and I have high hopes.
Despite the fact that I have lost all 40 pounds I gained when I was pregnant (yup! 40 pounds. I was only supposed to gain 25. Oops!) my Mii is still chubby and is still a very round little virtual MKO. I feel badly for her, but I did give her a new hairdo recently, so maybe she has forgiven me for the fact that her round tummy still hangs out of her shirt. In real life, my clothes cover my entire body very nicely, thank you very much, so I'm still annoyed with Wii Fit for that. But I suppose they consider it a motivating force.
I unlocked a new yoga pose recently and tried it last night. I'm not sure if the designers of Wii Fit are familiar with the mechanics of the human body, but I'm guessing not. The pose I tried is called "twist" and the way they want you to twist is impossible. You start out in the Warrior Pose, which looks like this (and this is actually a Wii Fit image):
you then take your back arm (in the example above, it would be her left arm) and "twist" your body so your back arm is touching your front foot (her right foot), and your right arm is pointing up to the sky, and you should be looking up at the ceiling. Just try it without landing on the floor. Your left arm comes OVER the head, by the way, you aren't dropping it to the floor. This is really hard! You have to twist your body in ways that your body shouldn't be twisting.
There are a few more poses I haven't unlocked yet, and I'm scared!

updates
Baby Girl had her Christmas pictures taken on Saturday. My smiley happy baby decided to be a grumpalump for her pictures. Not a single smile. Why do babies do that?
We bought New Super Mario Brothers Wii. It's very fun. But very hard. I had to have a conversation with Andrew before we played it - reminding him not to get frustrated with me, because I am not good at these new fangled games. Yet he still did. Anyway, it's a fun game and we are enjoying it. Though we won't really dig our teeth into it until later tonight when the babe is asleep.
I am so so so so so so excited for a 3 day work week. This week is better than Christmas week. And I get to work from home on Wednesday. I LOVE THANKSGIVING!

fury of a thousand suns
We are proud owners of Wii Fit. I've wanted it for a long time, but I am in the biggest fight with it. I knew going in that it would tell me I'm uber fat. After all, I am 9 months pregnant and I'm carrying a lot of excess weight right now. Why it doesn't have a pregnancy setting, I don't know. In my opinion it should - staying fit and healthy is important to pregnant women. Anyway, the point of the matter is, the Wii thinks I am obese and yells at me. I don't like it. Anid my Mii is so fat, the stomach is hanging out of the shirt. I yelled back at it last night and told it to go find a maternity shirt with some extra room in the belly, but apparently the lifeless digital form of me doesn't actually take non binary orders. So I have a fat and sloppy Mii until after this baby is born.
And, I can't do the balance activities. I used to have good balance (all those years of gymnastics and figure skating) before I was in the family way. But now my center of balance is so far off with a full term baby waiting to be born, that I can hardly balance correctly on 2 feet. However, since I can't do them (or a lot of the strength training ones) I can't unlock more of the activities that I can do (mainly yoga and aerobics). You have to do all the activities to unlock more of them, you can't just concentrate on yoga and open unlock more yoga poses. I understand why - they are making you work out your whole body - but I'M 9 MONTHS PREGNANT AND THEY ARE JUST MAKING IT HARDER FOR ME!!!!
