falling

Today was a very New England fall day.   Bright blue sky with big fluffy clouds,  temperatures in the mid 70's, FINALLY the humidity has gone, the Patriots won,  the GODDAM PATRIOTS LOST TO THE CARDINALS....

Ahem.

Sorry,  I'm still mad about that.

Anyway,  today was gorgeous.   We took the kiddos apple picking.  My Little Man was quite bored with the whole thing, but my Baby Girl had a blast.

She loved when her Daddy would lift her all the up to the tops of the trees!  I'm glad she had fun, but I am less happy about spending $22 on a ridiculous amount of apples that will never be eaten!  I made applesauce with some of them, but Andrew and I have differing opinions on what homemade applesauce should be like.  I swear, he'd be happy if I strained it through a fine mesh strainer.  Me, I like entire apple chunks to be in it.  What is the point of home made applesauce that tastes like Motts?  I will buy him the 6 pack of Motts if that's what he wants!   But I think I achieved a compromise consistency that we can both tolerate - no strainers, but nary a chunk of apple to be found.

Marriage = compromising about homemade applesauce.

Posting has been light lately since I have been separated from my computer for most of August.   I will continue to be separated from it sporadically.   The children and I are spending a lot of time down the cape, while Andrew is going back and forth.   He has deemed it necessary that HE takes the laptop with him.   This all adds up to far fewer posts from me.

As much as I don't want to think about it,  fall is coming.   Which means I need to get ready for fantasy football!  I did a mock draft last night and I think I did well - Andrew started to lecture me on picking my defense and kicker too early.   He likes to wait until his last two picks to get them.  I'm not a believer of this way of drafting.  Sure, the kicker yields very few points,  but defense? Games have been won or lost because of defense so why would you wait till the very end to pick it?   I like to pick mine up after I have filled all my other starting positions  (and my back up QB which is another thing Andrew and I disagree on).

But I ended up with Aaron Rodgers and Matty Ryan, the Eagles D,  and a whole bunch of other guys of varying degrees of skill.  We'll see how the real draft goes.

2 more weeks

I have an anxiety problem that I learned it from my mother.   We both tend to have anxiety over issues that don't need to be given a second thought.  I have been known to have anxiety over TV character's problems.   I lose sleep all the time over the silliest things.  Given all that,  I have a VERY hard time watching the playoffs of any sport (if by "any sport" you mean football or hockey.   Basketball doesn't exit in my universe and I just can't stand baseball).  And now I have 2 weeks to re-live the last Pats/Giants Super Bowl match up.   I may not sleep for 14 days.   I am so excited my boys are back in the Super Bowl!

In 15 days I find out if Lil Sibling is a Lil Sister or a Lil Brother!  Yay!  I can decide on a name (HA, like I'm going to tell you) and start buying blue clothes if I need to!   I have a very strong boy feeling but I had the same thought when I was pregnant with Baby Girl,  so we can see how good I am at that whole mother's intuition thing.

Speaking of Baby Girl - guess who is potty trained!  One accident in 11 days!  And to be honest, that accident wasn't completely her fault,  the bathroom door was closed and she didn't know what to do  - apparently asking one of the 6 adults who where around for help didn't cross her mind.   Special, that one.

Reign Supreme

We're coming up on the last bit of regular season of fantasy football.   Guess who has clinched a playoff position?  Oh, yeah, the same person who is in 2nd place (though I have more points than the 1st place team, which is infuriating).   The same person who beat Andrew (TWICE!!  HA!!! SUCK IT!!!!),  my brother, and my father.   Oh,  and my cousin, and my brother's friend,  and one of my father's friends...   Yup.   Me.    I am the best fantasy football player IN THE WORLD!  Or the second best in my league, however you want to look at it.   And I may only be in 2nd place because I got the first round draft pick and I grabbed Aaron Rodgers,  and this particular league gives a lot of points for quarterbacks.   Or it may be because I am the BEST FANTASY FOOTBALL PLAYER IN THE WORLD!!!!

Since I have been MIA from the blogging world lately,  here are a few things we need to go over:

1.  Occupy Boston (or wherever you live).   GET. A.  FLIPPING. JOB.   Seriously.   Stop living in tents on public property.  Stop being a waste of space.

2.  Penn State.   Sad.   Disturbing.  Lesson learned?  Call 911 when you see a child being abused.  I wouldn't think this is a lesson that needs to be reviewed.

3.  Demi & Ashton.   Is it wrong that I kind of want Demi and Bruce to get back together?

4.   My kid had her Christmas pictures taken.  Not a single smile.   I'm still using them for Christmas cards though,  you've been warned!

eek!

Football starts tonight, which means I have my first panic about my fantasy team... who do I start,  Ryan Grant or Felix Jones?  I went back and forth and ultimately went with Ryan Grant which was my plan all along.

I don't know if I am up to this kind of pressure.   What if I lose?  What if starting Felix Jones would have made all the difference?  WHAT IF I DON'T WIN A SINGLE GAME ALL SEASON?

I need some wine.

In other news, I had a heartbreaking conversation with my daughter tonight:

Baby Girl:  We go down the cape soon?
Mama: No sweetie, we're not going down the cape this weekend
Baby Girl:  We go down the cape later?
Mama:  no, sweetie.  Not later either
Baby Girl:  We go to the Ought Cub?  (yacht club)
Mama:  No baby,  the yacht club is closed
Baby Girl:  WHY MAMA??

Oh, if only I knew why summer had to come to such a quick end.

I blinked

and somehow it's the last day of August.

I may need some anti-depressants to get over this.

But now that it's fall, football is back! And this year I am participating in a fantasy football league. My first match up is against Andrew and if we both play all our starters, I am projected to win! HA! IMMA BEAT YOU!!!

We'll see how this season goes, I'm really not the ideal fantasy player - I gloss over stats and just watch the game. I can't do that and keep on top of my fantasy team and since Andrew and I are in the same league, it's really not fair for him to help me too much. I'm recruiting help elsewhere though, because I want to beat him.

Tomorrow is my last day of work and then it's a 4 day weekend for me! I hope to make it to the beach twice more this summer... we'll see if the weather cooperates.

bittersweet

8 months and 21 until Memorial Day weekend. But who's counting?

After we packed up a summer's worth of stuff into our cars, I drove away from the cape with an extremely heavy heart. I hate when summer ends, and I was glad we had two cars last night because I was crying for most of the trip home. So was Baby Girl, though she could have cared less that we were leaving the cape for the summer. She was more interested in when I was going to get her out of the damn car! She hates the car at night.

Unfortunately, we are back to reality. I go back to work a week from today. We're going to Keene next weekend. No more beach trips, no more boat trips, no more Betsy's trips, no more pool days...

But, life goes on. The Patriots start in a week, apple scented candles will make their appearance soon in my house, skiing season is around the corner (I can't imagine I'll get out on the slopes too much, but I'm hoping for at least a day or two!), and how long a wait is 8 months and 21 days? It can't be that bad, can it?

thoughts

In Baby Girl's short little lifespan, MJ and Ted Kennedy have died, and Tedy Bruschi has retired. She'll never witness another MJ molestation trial (aka bizarre 3 ring circus), never know what it's like to have a Kennedy as her Senator (unless Joe runs.... fingers crossed!) and never get to cheer for Bruuuuuuuuuuuu while wearing her #54 shirt with pride.

I feel badly for her. Except my own #54 shirt is so small, it will probably fit her next year!

open letter

Dear New England Patriots,

I know that you've been dealt a crappy deck this year. The Golden Boy himself is out until 2009. I understand that we cannot win every game - even WITH Tommy Boy. I am willing to accept a loss. I may not like it, but I'm willing to accept the random loss. However, what I witnessed today was unacceptable. A 38-13 Dolphins win is not the mark of a championship team. So buck up, rest on your bye week, and figure out what happened. I'll see you in two weeks and hopefully I won't get confused as to weather I am watching high school football or professional football.

Love,
Meghan

P.S. Tedy - good choice on the haircut. You look 10 years younger!

Short and Sweet

* True Blood on HBO. I'm not 100% sold on it yet. The first episode hooked me and the second one creeped me out. This week's looks even crazier, so it could possibly be the make or break episode. If you aren't watching and you get HBO, you should watch. If nothing else it isn't like anything that is out there now.

* I'm home sick today. Once I got past the guilt and worrying about tomorrow, I rather enjoyed it. I haven't stayed home sick since February of 2007, so this is not a common thing for me to do. Maybe I'll do it again in 19 months.

* The Pillars of the Earth. I'm 265 pages in, and still waiting to see what all the fuss is about. But I'll keep plugging along because I have never met anyone who didn't like this book.

* Matt Cassel. Not bad. Also, cuter than Tom Brady.

5th quarter

It was the 1st quarter of the season. The first quarter!! Last year's Superbowl was heartbreaking. But, hey, you can't win every year and there was always next year. And we all waited patiently for next year to come. Tropical storm Hanna had rolled out just in time, it was a picture perfect fall day, and football was back.

Then Brady didn't get up, and I was slightly concerned. But he walked off the field... so how injured could he be?

Well maybe September of 2009 will make up for this. For now I'm placing my hopes with Cassel. While he's not Brady, I'm still going to believe he can do it. Belichick didn't cut him, so there's got to be a reason for that. And as critical as the QB is, there's a whole team of champions there!
