a little tired...

I cannot wait for vacation. As of August 24th, Andrew and I on vacation until September 4th. I cannot wait. I want to lounge on the beach, swim in the pool, go out on the boat, and just relax. It’s going to be fun. 4.5 more work days to go!

This past Saturday the Burkes came down to Falmouth for the day. It was really fun, we went to the beach, had some frozen drinks at the YC, went in the pool, had a cookout, did some serious damage to a bottle of tequila… all in all, it was a really fun day. Leah had her first sip of G&T (accidentally!!) Of COURSE I forgot my camera so I don’t have any pictures. I really need to get a new camera so I have one of those small ones that can fit very easily everywhere so I would have it once in a while, but what are you going to do. I had a really fun day, it's always good to catch up with friends!

So we had a fun weekend and now we’re pretty much just waiting for our vacation to start. Unfortunately when our vacation is over it means fall is here, but being married to Andrew has forced me to have at least an appreciation for the autumn months. I quite enjoy the fashions when the weather gets colder, at any rate. I really want a jean jacket this year. I say that almost every year, but I never seem to get one. Maybe this year I will make it priority. I also still want red pants. I never got them last year. That seems to be a trend – me wanting clothes that I never get. I have purchased three pairs of shoes (well technically one pair of sneakers and two pairs of shoes) in the past week, so I think my spending needs to be curbed for awhile. The damage I could do on zappos.com if I had the time and funds available – it would NOT be pretty. I do love shoes.

In other news, the country is finally rid of Karl Rove in any advisory capacity, whatsoever. Though he is still only a phone call away from El Presidente – which means he isn’t completely gone. But Satan, excuse me – Bush, is a lame duck by this point. Most of his domestic agenda for his second term is dead. If only we could go back in time and get out of this Iraq ridiculousness… but we can’t and I won’t comment further. That is a different blog for a different time.

In less serious news, my car will roll 50,000 miles today. (it is currently at 49,992 and I have to go to school tonight). I can't believe my little car has so many miles! My car was my first real grown up purchase, and really the only major purchase I ever made or will make by myself. My parents told me I could drive the van as long as it lasted once I graduated. My brother got to do the same thing when he graduated, and he was luckier than I was. We could drive it - but we were also responsible for all the upkeep. My brother drove it for about 2 years, saved a ton of money and bought an explorer. I graduated, inherited an electric blue 1994 Ford Aerostar and drove it for about 6 months. Then it stopped going forward. I kid you not, I would put it in Drive and it would go backwards (it would also go backwards in reverse) It started stalling at red lights and finally I just said enough. It wasn't safe and I could not afford the repairs, which probably would have cost 6 times more than the car was worth. So in November of 2003, I took my downpayment out of the bank, traveled up to Autofair in Manchester NH (where my boyfriend sold cars at the time (okay so the boyfriend was Andrew, I just like to sound like I had a string of hopelessly devoted boyfriends in my younger years!)) and picked out my beautiful brand new Carolla. My father tried to talk me out of it, he told me to buy American, to buy a bigger car - but I had been driving that Aerostar since I got my license. When you have driven a really old, really ugly, really big minivan your entire driving career, you want little and cute. A carolla is little and cute - especially since that was just after the remodel of carollas. And while, yes, buying American is good, keeps the money in America - American automakers just don't make Cute Little Cars. Toyota excells at the Cute Little Car (how cute is the Prius???). I'm really happy with my car - I do wish that we had at least one bigger car between us. We look like a clown car when we roll up to a mountain in our Carolla (Andrew drives a Sentra which is smaller than my car!) and pull out all our skiing gear. We have to fold down the backseat and stick the skis in at an angle - meanwhile everyone else shows up in their huge gas guzzlers and takes their skis out of their ski racks or storage thingies on top of their cars. But, hey, what are you gonna do. We have two small cars and I don't want to buy a new car for a couple of years. This November my little car will be paid off and if all goes well, Andrew's will be paid off by March. Then hopefully no car payments for a few years!!

I just want to note I like how you have an entire sub-category of 'subtle slights against Bush'. Well done.
